Emanuel Synagogue

  Who We Are

Emanuel Synagogue, the Conservative synagogue for the Oklahoma City photo of synagogue members at kiddush table area, is home to some 200 member families and individuals. Our congregation is close-knit and friendly, like a big family. Most of us have known each other for years (often for generations), but we're thrilled when newcomers ask to join us, and we do everything we can to make them feel welcome and integrate them into our community.

Our synagogue membership is diverse, including people of all ages and a wide range of Jewish backgrounds (Conservative, Orthodox, Reform, and Jews by marriage or by choice). What we all have in common is our commitment to maintaining our Jewish culture and heritage for ourselves and for our children and grandchildren.

As Conservative Jews, we respect Judaic traditions and study Torah while photo of morning minyan seeking to make them relevant to busy lives in the modern world. For example, Emanuel Synagogue is proud to sustain the only morning minyan in Oklahoma City, held each morning, Sunday through Friday, in the downstairs Lieberman Chapel.

Emanuel is a sister synagogue to Temple B'nai Israel, Oklahoma City's Reform congregation. A number of our members belong to both congregations, and we often share resources and conduct activities such as youth programs together.

We hope this website will provide useful resources for our members and serve to welcome prospective members. Feel free to contact us about anything here.

Our heartfelt thanks are due to many people for their help in making this website possible. Among them:

ROBERT EPSTEIN:   In addition to his many other contributions to Emanuel Synagogue, Robert originated our first website, registered and still maintains our domain name, and has been very generous with his help and insight throughout this project.

HELENE HARPMAN:   Helene thought the synagogue needed an up-to-date website and made it happen, pulling together the many threads and seeing that they got woven into a finished product.

DEBRA WOLRAICH and JULIE PLOTKIN:   Two more tireless contributors to synagogue activities, Debra and Julie are also talented photographers and took most of the photos on our website pages.
